Autoimmune Diseases
There are more than 80 types of autoimmune diseases or diseases where the immune system essentially attacks itself. They disproportionately affect women, and many are more prevalent in African Americans, American Indians and Latinas. Lupus, multiple sclerosis, Crohn's disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and psoriasis are among the more common or well known autoimmune diseases.
